BEAT AROUND THE BUSH, OR…
Anand was in love. Totally smitten. From that first half look, he knew.
Knew. The kind of knowing that comes from the sub conscious. Where the entire universe sends signals that she is the one. He knew.
She liked him too. The smiles, group walks, projects, gentle nudges, that rink to denote the prank she was going to play. She liked his friendship, his company, him.
For four years he knew, he had found her. She hadn’t found him. Then. He had dropped enough hints. More than enough. The gifts, letters, notes, roses… the messaging was clear as day. To him.
They met again, fifteen years later. They met in a group, a class get together. He came alone for he was! She came with Sridhar, another classmate, and her husband.
What happened?
As with such parties, there are quite a few pregnant pauses when some people wander off alone. He went to her and asked her WHY? Why Sridhar? Why?
Her eyebrows crinkled up, her face mixed emotions, surprised and confused, as to what was he driving at? And then she realised the intent.
She took a deep breath and then said: Because he asked “Will you marry me?” And I said yes.
