EVER FELT INTENSELY FLUSTERED?
Never…???

Ever felt flustered?
The feeling of intense stress multiplied by pressure and significant strain to boot.
The point of zero energy where you seem to be doing the routines. Just like that.
The state of acute busy-ness when you are doing a lot of things. Yet, things don’t get done. Ever.
A downward spiral of things pilling on higher and higher. Larger and larger. Deadlines after deadlines given a miss.
The inability to answer a question about the status or progress or
When will this be completed….?
Who am I?
I am a Manager/Executive/COO/CEO; take your pick.
Blame-gaming and Cover-your-ass time has long since gone. So has the power of shame to be a great motivator. It appears to be a time of indifference. Nothing is felt anymore. Nothing seems to matter.
I try to run, and it is as if my feet are stick in quicksand. The mind is willing them to move, just so, yet, no forward movement.
New teammates added. New processes were put in place. And checklists. And loads of back-patting and encouragement.
To what avail?
Getting out of bed itself is an extensive exercise. The mind seems unwilling to get up and go to work.
Apathy, which transmits into personal life as well. By osmosis, you ask? I am but the same person right, at work and at home.
Is there a way to stop and backtrack?
I would love to know. And implement.
I am but one, yet a representation of the many. You relate to what I said. Either you have gone through or are currently experiencing parts of what I write about.
Then, aren’t you also searching for a way out? An elixir, perhaps, which, when consumed, will lead us out of this misery. Automatically. Immediately. That magic pill….?
Alas, it appears that Neo took the last of those pills :)
Attempted humour, I accept. What else is in life if we cannot laugh at ourselves?
When we fall into a pit, the only way out is…..to get out. Either on our own or through the help of some good Samaritans who give us a helping hand.
The will to get out needs to be there, to begin with — and always — until we get out of this rut.
That same old cliched saying of leading a horse to water, one cannot make it drink.
If you want to get out, change, smile once again, and go back to work with the initial joy and euphoria……OPEN UP.
Talk to your family and friends.
There I go, preaching again.
I am but a Manager/COO/CEO, like you.
I have been through this experience. And I am sure more is in store as I move ahead/forward.
Can this writing then not be an initial spark to set your mind on fire.
To create the fire that will burn out all negativity and perhaps some fire under your ass — to get you to move ahead.
One step at a time.
Eliminating one irritation at a time.
Towards the tip of the well, getting your fingers around the edge.
You pull yourself out, inch by inch.
And when you are finally out
Looking at the sun shining on you
And the wind tousling your hair
Bend down once more
And give your hand
To help one of your brethren
Find the way
Back to sunlight
Smiles
And life.
One hand
One word
One support
At a time.
So, the next time you feel overwhelmed and flustered…..
Share it with your friends
And recharge.
As life is a marathon, and we need to push beyond the wall.
The only sane ones are the crazy ones.
A quote from the “World’s toughest race” documentary.
