Keep it tight: Jump like a cat!

KEEP IT TIGHT
When you don’t know what to do, you either do nothing or try out a lot of (unrelated) things only to look busy!
When you do something, knowing what to do, and why, there is clarity and speed in your work. It is as if everything is aligned. Smooth, is the word to describe it.
I am an outlier marketer, and I absorb ideas and learning from varied sources. How varied? Here is an example.
I attended a workshop conducted by Raj Ganpath of The Quad. The session had a catchy click-bait title:
“Jump like a cat”
It was as if Raj was challenging me directly. The title made me question myself…. Being heavy-built like an Elephant, can he make me jump like a cat? Only one way to find out!
He started the workshop asking us to focus on three key parts of our body. The ankle, knee, and the hips: three key elements that needed to be spruced for the next act. The workshop moved on to a few exercises on the basics, working on these three key elements. From slow spot jumps, he ran us through the entire motion in various jump modes. We were getting better with each learning loop. Different elements of our body, working in unison.
Some sessions, words, and learning stay on for longer. This was one such session and the key highlights are:
(A) The first few jumps had our body and the arms flailing around. You can achieve better jump control by tightening the butt during the jump and bringing all moving parts closer to the body.
(B) The different steps taught us how to use different parts of the body for a specific use. How to build tension before the jump? How to time the use of your arm swing to generate more power, in the direction of your jump? Directing all the channeled energy into that one specific purpose. To jump, jump well, and then jump higher!
(C ) Raj wanted us to find our own timing and our own best height and frequency of the jumps. The lower you go, the higher you can reach.
(D) What do you want? Raj’s words paraphrased: If you want power, keep the intensity high, like a Cheetah, for short sprints. If you want strength, work on medium intensity. If you want endurance, work for a longer duration at a low intensity.
Now, this isn’t a Quad exercise session review. It was great by the way!
Please read the three sections, A, B, C, and D once again from a business context, or that of a marketing plan.
When you know what you want: In this case, “a compact jump that takes you higher”, then you will do what is necessary to bring it all together.
Find out what are the 2–3 key levers for your go-to-market plan.
Figure out how to generate power.
Focus that energy into what you want to achieve.
Find your own timing to know when to push for power.
Always, KEEPING IT TIGHT!
Who doesn’t want to jump higher?
